Vadas's Street Front Railing
Medium: Steel
Dimensions: 42 H x 72 H (feet)
Notes: The client commissioned a beautiful set of trellises and an arbor for the back yard, but wanted a railing at the front of the house as well. Seeing that the windows on the front had a different kind of motif, I carried over the pattern for this railing.

Maxine's Railing
Medium: Powder-coated steel
Dimensions: 42 H (inches)
Notes: The veranda railing was commissioned by the owner to contain her six dogs. A few of them were small dogs, so I had to make the openings small enough to contain them. This project was rather somewhat complex, and much metal was used.

Sundeck Railing (combo)
Medium: Steel
Dimensions: 28 H x 1 W x 60 L (inches)
Notes: My client at that time, Junita Kirby of Morden, Manitoba, wanted a railing with an open feel to it, one that would allow her to view and enjoy her beautiful garden. It seemed appropriate to use a motif that reflected something of the natural world.
The heads are made of factory slugs. Some heads were deliberately not welded to the border and thus, like a head of wheat, they wave gently in a breeze. (2001)

Angel Archway
Medium: Steel
Dimensions: 13 H x 2 W x 14 W (feet)
Notes: My clients, the Braun's, commissioned an archway with the request that an angel be depicted on it. I made two designs: One flying, and one standing, each with a trumpet.
Their country farmyard is known as Bloominggail's, a place frequented by numerous vistors every summer. The Brauns wanted some of my work to beautify the approach to their house.
The arch is built of one-inch diameter pipes; the 10 mm steel reinforcing rods become vines with leaves and flowers. The leaves were pressed from dies that I built and the flowers were made of steel disks. (2003)

Angel Archway (concrete - closeup)
Medium: Concrete
Dimensions: 30 H x 48 W (inches)
Notes: For the centerpiece, I had made two designs: One flying angel, and one standing, each with a trumpet. This is the flying one.
One-inch diameter pipes and the 10 mm steel reinforcing rods continue to the top, and they support the vines with leaves, flowers, and centerpiece there. The leaves were pressed from dies that I built and the flowers were made of steel disks. The centerpiece is made of concrete, which is then specially treated with a chemical glaze - to ensure it will last. (2003)

Debonair Campground Arch
Medium: Steel
Dimensions: 25 H x 22 W (feet)
Notes: This archway was commissioned by Jean-Paul & Agnes Gosselin of St. Malo, Manitoba, to mark the entrance to a park for recreational vehicles. They requested that I include mermaids in the design.
The upper part of the arch was designed not to have much wind resistance, hence the spaces between the pipes and the open letters.
The leaves were cut out by hand with a plasma cutter, and then pressed in a die. The vines are 10 mm steel reinforcing rods and the flowers are made of slugs, which are wasted in the metal fabrication industry. (2001)

Leaf & Flower Arbor
Medium: Steel
Dimensions: 7 H x 4 W (feet)
Notes: This structure was built out of reinforcing rods (rebars). People loved the design, but I bartered it off with a neighbor for some money and cultivator farm work. This sculpture is available in smooth rods, or in rebar. Interestingly, the arbor opens up in the middle, with a magnetic gate latch!
